Abesco Fire Z240 Pipe Collars consist of a zinc-coated, factory-formed steel shell containing heat-reactive intumescent material. When exposed to temperatures of approximately 300°F, the graphite-based intumescent material expands to form a solid insulating char plug, effectively sealing openings where plastic pipes penetrate fire-rated walls and floors.
These pipe collars have been in use for more than 25 years as part of self-contained firestopping systems. The intumescent material has an expansion rate of approximately 28% of its volume and a crush value of about 10 to 15 psi (69 kPa to 103 kPa). The device is tested in accordance with ASTM E814 (UL1479) standards and classified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. as a through-penetration firestop device with ratings of up to 2 hours.
All installations must follow manufacturer instructions, and through-penetrations should be sealed using a UL Classified system or device listed in the current UL Fire Resistance Directory or supported by approved shop drawings prior to installation. Suitability for specific applications should be determined before use.
